Redemar Alevinos

Short Description (Company/ Institute):

Redemar Alevinos is a familiar Hatchery stablished in 2003 producing marine fish fingerlings. Is the only laboratory of marine fish production from Brazil and the only one in the world which produce fingerlings of Dusky Grouper commercially.

Fields of activity, fields of research and development:

Our activity is production of fingerlings of marine fish. To achieve the production of fingerlings of Serranidae species we had to do research and development in the area of reproduction (Cryopreservation of semen, sex change, hormonal induction) and production of juveniles of groupers. We had the support of several institutions such as the Oceanographic Institute-USP, Institute of Biosciences of USP, São Paulo Institute of Fisheries and Marine Biology Center of the USP. We currently produce fingerlings of Dusky Grouper and Cobia which are provided to all Brazilian research institutions and private companies. We also develop research with production of fingerlings Recirculation Aquaculture System (RAS) with the support of FAPESP (PIPE- Innovation in Small Business Program of Research Support Foundation of the State of São Paulo).

Main competences for international cooperation:

We developed technology for reproduction of Dusky Grouper and production of juveniles. The Dusky Grouper is an endangered species in the category Vulnerable (IUCN) and of great importance in the Mediterranean Sea. We also have experience with the production of groupers in recirculation aquaculture system, shrimp ponds and net pens.

Main fields of interest for international cooperation:

We are interested in improving our knowledge and equipment in recirculation aquaculture systems and remote monitoring. We can share the technology for breeding and production of fingerlings of Dusky Grouper.
